with particular attention given to those seeking to become secondary school
science teachers, environmental and biological scientists;

funding for geoscience departments must recognise the unique aspects and
costs involved of providing quality geoscience teaching, such as field
requirements and specialised equipment needs;
 | adoption of four year geoscience undergraduate programs in recognition of
the Australia's requirements for producing high quality professional
geoscience graduates in industry, government and academia;
 | strong encouragement of tertiary institutions to make geoscience
undergraduate programs open to review by professional societies to ensure
that they meet acceptable standards of content and outcomes;
 | active promotion of government and industry backing for minerals tertiary
education in Australia subject to continuing external review so as to ensure
that geoscience students graduate with relevant skills and capabilities,
thereby enabling them to understand and deal with the challenges posed by
ongoing economic and technological changes;
 | structuring of geoscience post-graduate programs to provide for continuing
education needs of geoscientists in addressing their technical and
professional training and development requirements.
