Geoscience Priorities for the Next Australian Government

The Australian Geoscience Council (AGC) has released its platform for the upcoming Australian Federal election.  The geoscience priorities for the next Australian Government are:

bulletsimplify land access procedures for mineral and petroleum exploration
bulletpromote "greenfields" exploration, especially by small companies
bulletpromote long term investment in Australia's science and technology base
bulletdevelop a national plan to address salinity and water quality issues
bulletRejuvenate AGSO as Australia’s national geoscience institution
bulletImplement the Productivity Commission’s Report on Cost Recovery and apply these recommendations to AGSO, ABS and ABARE
bulletIncrease Government funding of CSIRO
bulletRepeal Section 17 of the Australian Citizenship Act 1948, to make it easier for Australian scientists who have taken out foreign citizenship to return home and work in Australia
